Watercolor Seed

5" x 8" journal page, watercolor paints. Jan. 18, 2013.
Just playing with my watercolor paints, I drew half circles of color, until I filled the width of the page, and added a few details, and flares on the outside. Then I added the green sprout and the roots to fill the page. A little bit of calligraphy on the facing page in brush and paints. It inspired me to carve in linoleum block a series of 4 seed and sprout stamps for printing on my fabric.
I stamped the four linoleum carvings onto the calligraphy page, I had to double stamp the black images, they were too light, the green shows up well. It will be fun to play with the stamps.

Three Crows

Computer paper, 6" x 8" hand carved linoleum stamps, black Flair marker. Sept. 23, 2012
I was working on photo transfer techniques with gel medium, and printed one of my crow photographs on paper. I decided to finish it, I would need to carve a linoleum stamp of a crow from another photo. I made the linoleum stamp double sided, 'cause it is such thick material, and now I have two nice crow stamps. I stamped samples onto paper and added a quick black Flair pen sketch of leaves and branches to go with it. I used a plastic stencil I just got at a garage sale to stencil "3Crow" across the top. I will finish the photo transfer print next.

Circles

6" x 8" drawing paper, acrylic paint, painted and stamped, July 26, 2012
The July challenge for sketchbookchallenge.blogspot.com featured circles. All the artists on the site posted various circle themed pages. I played with acrylic paint and ended up with a figure 8 instead, double circles? So then I stamped double concentric circles with the end of a thread spool. It needs something?? Maybe more stamping in teal to balance the little bit at the bottom?

Green & Purple Prints

Both - 6" x 8" brown craft paper, mixed media. July 18, 2012
The green piece is done with a base of collaged magazine strips in green colors. I originally started to draw some doodles in black Sharpie marker, but I did not like it, so I over painted in green acrylic paints with white streaks, some of the doodles show through. The purple did not have a magazine under layer, just purple paint on brown paper. Then each was stamped with a foam stamp and white acrylic paint to make the patterning. The green one was highlighted with a white gel pen. I don't know if I am done with them or not, or will over paint them again.
