I found two sets of professional watercolor paints at two different garage sales. Each for $1, the Prang set was brand new. I like the variety of colors in the 16 piece Binney & Smith, but it seems the colors are more intense in the basic Prang set. Especially the dark black and cobalt blue.

Watercolor Test
Every Day Matters #190 - Draw your color palette. 8" x 12" Watercolor paper, watercolor paints, Pigma pen. Oct. 6, 2012.
My cheap set of Michael's brand "Artist's Loft" watercolor paints. I am moving up in the world, I have been using a dollar store kids set of watercolors. The wet paints are sure different, deeper colors, need more water to make light colors or to mix colors. It will take some practice to get used to them, and to get the colors I want. I finally got the hang of the $ store set. But there is not s good deep blue, the Cobalt in the set is light, and the Prussian blue is very dark teal. Maybe I need to spend more money on a really good set?

Watercolor Chart
6" x 8" Journal page, 8" x 10" pencil sketch, watercolor paints, Pigma pen, white gel pen. Sept. 6, 2012.
I painted my tray of watercolor paints, and did a color chart, with blends of the different colors. It is a cheap kids dollar store watercolor kit. I have managed to do fairly well with this assortment, it is a challenge to try and see how well I can get the colors I want. I think it helps my skills with the color wheel, to practice with this limited pallet. No fancy names like alizarin or pthalo. I am used to Crayola crayon names.
