Stewart Park Map

5" x 7" page and a half, drawing pad, pencil, colored pencil. April 30, 2013. They have posted new signs with mileage around the park trail, so we wanted a reference. We like to walk from the train to the butterfly garden, and the loop down by the river by the band shell. We also walk from the cafe at the golf course to the butterfly garden or to the duck pond, our friend works at the cafe, and we get sodas or breakfast while visiting with her. The river loop is .36 miles, the largest loop returning along the freeway is 2.64 miles, and cutting thru the VA Hospital grounds is 2.35 miles. We usually only do about a half mile, but Charlie is walking much better since his surgery.

Condiments II

5" x 7" drawing pad, mechanical pencil, colored pencils, Pigma pen. April 28, 2013. We went up to Glide Oregon and had breakfast on the deck of the Idllyde Restaurant, the assortment of condiments, was different with a scalloped bowl of jam and butter, and a teal sugar bowl.

Trop -A-Rocka Snapple

Every Day Matters #205 Draw a soda. 5" x 7" drawing pad, pencil sketch, colored pencil, Uniball pen. April 19, 2013 Sitting in the Tavern drinking my Trop-aRocka Snapple, it was created by rocker Bret Michaels as one of the Celebrity Apprentice projects. I love the hint of cinnamon that it has in it. But we can't figure out what fruits are in it, because it only says "Natural Flavors" The label has a mango, peach and a pear, two of those are not tropical. And of coarse I needed to add a typo, I DID NOT spell Snapple right, I think I just ran out of room on the bottle, oh well.

Two Frogs

5" x 8" journal page, pencil sketch, colored pencil. Feb. 24, 2013. A pair of frogs, from a section of a painting done by my favorite artist Lary McKee, he comes to our local arts festival every year. We have been buying his work for quiet a few years now, first his desert pictures, florals with blue and white china for the kitchen and now his frogs. I love the playfulness and bright colors. My colored pencils did not do the colors justice, trying to get enough contrast and outlines was difficult.

Day 2 of class

5" x 7" drawing pad, mechanical pencil, colored pencil. Feb. 28, 2013. Today I drew some of the objects in First Aide and CPR class, the plastic dummy was gray, with a translucent blue chest plate. The class was presented by the American Heart Association, different from the Red Cross classes we have taken in the past. We got to learn infant and child CPR also, which we all think is a good thing, since we drive school bus, with lots of kids. Most of the people in class were sitting behind me, so I drew the dish rack full of plastic dishes and the BUNN Coffee maker, as class was getting boring and repetitive.

Bob #29, Jeff, and Paula

5" x 7" drawing pad, mechanical pencil, colored pencil. Feb. 27, 2013. Sitting in class, drawing Bob in front of me, this is a typical Bob pose, as he sits and reads at the lunch table. As I sit through CPR and 1st Aide class, rather bored, I sketch the people around me, they are staring to the front of the class, not moving much, so I have the opportunity to sketch them before they move. Jeff didn't have to take the class, so he and another driver sat and played cards.

Breakfast

5" x 7" drawing pad, mechanical pencil, colored pencils. Jan. 4, 2013.
I don't think I am finished with this one. I was going to add color to the wood grain table and write H2O on the bottle, and finish coloring the coffee cup. I may even go over it with ink. I mistakenly scanned it in black and white mode, so I am showing both versions. My hospital breakfast of cottage cheese, banana and coffee.

Scoreboard

5" x 7" drawing pad, pencil sketch, colored pencil. Nov. 29, 2012.
The vintage shuffleboard scoreboard at the Tee Pee tavern. It is a very old, well maintained shuffleboard, that gets league play every Tuesday and Saturday, and tournament every Thursday night. They have always taken their shuffleboard very seriously, but have lots of FUN too! Cheering and jeering the other side, laughing and teasing.

Mr. Peanut and Chips

5" x 7" drawing pad, pencil sketch, colored pencil. Nov. 29, 2012.
A vintage plastic Mr. Peanut container, holds bags of peanuts for sale in the tavern, a rack of chips and jerky on the counter next to it.

The Bicycling Guitarist

5" x 7" drawing pad, pencil sketch, colored pencils. Oct. 31, 2012.
We went out Halloween evening to hear a neighbor play guitar at a little local deli/coffee shop. He write his own stuff and is a good guitarist. They were working on doing a video, so we heard one song three times ?$#? while they filmed it differently. It was fun to go out and support someone who you know. He got his name because he rides around town on his bicycle and plays guitar while he rides.

Trophy

Every Day Matters # 71 - Draw a trophy. 5" x 7" Drawing pad, pencil sketch, colored pencils. Oct. 30, 2012.
I drew this at the local McDonald's, it is a baseball trophy for one of the teams they sponsor. It is sitting on a glass shelf and I am looking at it,up through the glass. The pillars are a sparkly purple/blue reflective material, and the rest is gold platting on a wooden base. I could have centered it on the page better.

Baseball Players

Every Day Matters #71 - Draw something representing your favorite sport. 5" x 7" drawing pad, pencil sketch, colored pencil. Oct. 29, 2012.
I drew this, copying from a painting at the local McDonald's restaurant, the McD's is decorated with a sports theme. It is a painting from the famous artists who does sports with quick loose paint strokes. I can't think of his name. The colored pencil did a good job of showing his loose painting techniques.

Los Dos Amigos I & II

Both 5" x 7" watercolor paper, pencil sketch, colored pencils, Pigma pen. Sept 25 & 26, 2012.
Los Dos Amigos Mexican Restaurant, corner of Garden Valley & Stephens, Roseburg, Oregon. Sketched while on break on my school bus, the first pic is slow and deliberate, over several days, of sketching, coloring and inking. A ruler would have been useful, I got a few of the angels off, and wish I'd drawn it smaller so it fit on the paper better. The second, I did in about 10 minutes, color and ink, no pencil sketch, I was trying for quick and energetic, loose and fun. Again, I wish it was smaller, so I didn't have to squeeze in the flags. Not sure if I got the quick fluidity I was trying for. Being cramped up working on my steering wheel, may have contributed to the stiffness. It is an all brick building with a red metal roof. It used to be a Fire House Pizza restaurant, so that's why the architecture is the way it is.

Blue Onion

Every Day Matters Challenge #31 - Draw something you collect & #43 - Draw something china or ceramic. Double Journal page, 8" x 10" pencil sketch, colored pencil. 9-9-12.
I have been collecting Blue Onion China since high school, when I got a set of dinner ware at a garage sale. I loved the graphic blue and white. It is not to be confused with blue willow, the blue onion is a traditional Jacobean pattern, not oriental. Many manufactures have made it over the years in varying quality. It has also been called Blue Danube, and Blue Nordic. I have collected most of it from garage sales and antique stores, the best pieces have pieced edges. I have vases, tea & coffee pots, spice sets, bells, platters, egg cups, canisters, tureens, match boxes, cheese boards, candlestick holders, trinket boxes with lids, as well as a dinner service for 12+. Not all of it matches exactly, different manufactures, but it all has the tree of life, with various flowers, and the large double leaf at the base. Most have blue onions on them as well for a decorative element. My favorite tea is red Rose decaf, and I collaged a few tea tags at the top also.

Rotary Cutter

Every Day Matters Challenge #16 - Draw your favorite tool. Journal page, 5" x 8" pencil sketch, colored pencil, Flair marker, silver metallic marker. Sept. 5, 2012.
My 45mm Olfa Rotary Cutter, I use it constantly to cut fabric for my quilts. In 20 years I've only cut myself a few times. Before that everything was hand cut with scissors, one piece at a time.

Cell Phone

Every Day Matters Challenge #13 - Draw your phone, land line, cell or other type. Journal Page, 5" x 8" pencil sketch, Flair marker, colored pencils, Sept. 4, 2012.
My Tracfone, plain silver gray, not very colorful, I can see why people get fancy covers for their phones. Even just so you don't loose it. "I never answer my phone, I am not tied by an umbilical to any one. It is for emergencies only. It startles me when it rings. DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE!"

Reading Glasses

Every Day Matters Challenge #11 - Draw your glasses or sunglasses. 6" x 8" drawing paper, pencil sketch, colored pencil, Pigma pen. Aug. 25, 2012
"I have numerous pairs of reading glasses in my sewing room. I drop them in each zip lock bag of take along sewing projects. Along with a little wire needle threader. These two cute plastic glasses, with matching fabric cases, one is blue with black leopard spots, the other multi color pastel tiger stripes. I even have a silver pair with a silver chain to go around my neck like an old lady."

Bullock's Bridge, Tyee, Oregon

Every Day Matters Challenge # 83 - Draw a near by body of water, ocean, lake, pond or river. 5" x 7" watercolor pad. Colored pencil, watercolor pencil. Aug. 19, 2012.
"Bullock's Bridge as seen from Tyee landing restaurant deck. A beautiful day, 70' sunny, cool breeze, watching kids and dogs swimming in the Umpqua River. Fish and Chips and Chas had a BLT, extra ice tea, only place on the river from the coast to Crater Lake. The only colored pencil I had that was sharp enough to draw with, was the blue one. I really need to carry a regular pencil and a sharpener. I added a wash of light blue and green watercolor pencil, wet with a Q-tip, when I got home"

Large Shell, Two Smaller Shells

Both - 5" x 7" watercolor pad, colored pencil, Aug. 15, 2012
"Sea shell from the Tee Pee Tavern. Tracy had set out a tray full of shells on the bar, to decorate for the annual luau. I drew the largest, about 3 1/2" in colored pencil, trying to get the proportion of the spiral, and the mottled texture. The two smaller shells, approx. 2" I drew with a different color pencil.
